Yesterday’s Spooktacular 9th Annual Car Show, hosted by the Desert Corvette Association, showcased an impressive collection of classic vehicles, hot rods, and a variety of Corvettes in its highly regarded judged car show, which has become a much-anticipated event in the automotive community.
Despite the morning’s gray skies and the drizzle that seemed to threaten the proceedings, Corvettes from all years, along with American cars of all makes and models dating back to 1987 and older, gathered at the lively location of American Furniture Warehouse, situated at 4700 South Power Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85296. Participants arrived eagerly to share their remarkable rides and deep passion for cars, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, camaraderie, and appreciation for automotive craftsmanship.
Even with the occasional sprinkles, there was still an impressive turnout of unique cars and trucks and, as one would hope, a fantastic selection of beautiful Corvettes ranging from a first-generation C1 to several newer C8 models of every variety and color. In the spirit of Spooktacular, several cars were adorned with skeletons to celebrate the upcoming holiday.
As a photographer, I loved the overcast sky (sans rain), which acted like a giant softbox, creating excellent, even lighting with minimal glare and soft shadows. I imagine a few car owners felt otherwise as they continually wiped the tiny speckles of rain from their otherwise perfect display of cars with their shiny paint and polished chrome.
Like many of the car enthusiasts on hand, I was optimistic that the weather would turn around in our favor. Our patience and optimism paid off, and in time, the clouds cleared enough for the towels to be put aside and the convertible tops to drop. Wet or dry didn’t matter to me so much. Either way, I got miles of great photos of Corvettes and America’s stunning cars on display.
