CREATION + EVOLUTION = MOMENTUM
Most dictionaries define momentum as motion or a series of events and speak of mass and velocity. My new art in the studio is all of that! I could not be more excited as my latest artwork, MOMENTUM, moves forward. Momentum is not about speed, it’s about progress. After all, the difference between the 1953 Corvette and the 2023 Corvette is seven decades of choreographed steps to get from there to here. Nothing great happens overnight.
Lately, I’ve been engaged in the studio with MOMENTUM, my diptych of two paintings, CREATION (a 1953 first-year Corvette) and EVOLUTION (a 2023 C8 Z06), which together celebrate Corvette’s 70 years as America’s Sports Car. Each painting is 48″ tall x 60″ wide — ten feet across for the two combined artworks when placed side-by-side.
My momentum until now has been in preparation, preparing my reference, studying my subject, and staging the studio for a full-on session of dedicated paint time. With other projects cleared from my plate, I am ecstatic to start painting these two amazing cars.
These paintings will be unveiled as part of the LUSTER: Realism and Hyperrealism in Contemporary Automobile and Motorcycle Painting exhibition at the National Corvette Museum in March 2024 and showcased through December 31st. Follow MOMENTUM’s progress on the Corvette Art Timeline.
The LUSTER Exhibition features sixty epic automobile and motorcycle artworks by fifteen artists. Along with MOMENTUM, I’ll have three motorcycle paintings on display: AMERICA, DREAM 103, and INDIAN SUMMER, which have been part of the LUSTER Exhibition since 2018.
