Mixin’ Up The Media

Art Is about Creating, Not Recreating.

Art Is About Creating, Not Recreating

As a lifelong creative, I’ve always been fascinated by different art processes and techniques. This curiosity has led me to seek new ways to express my creativity constantly. Whether it’s experimenting with acrylics, watercolors, oils, or mixed media, I relish the exploration of diverse artistic avenues.

My studio reflects this constant experimentation, with pieces in various stages of completion using multiple materials. I’ve never been one to dwell on any one method of painting or drawing for too long. Each medium offers unique challenges and rewards, pushing me to grow and adapt differently.

Exploring new horizons invigorates my creative spirit and allows me to evolve as an artist continually. My journey is not about reaching a destination but rather enjoying the process of exploration and discovery.

Always in constant flux, I enjoy shifting from one media and style to another. By embracing change, I open myself up to unexpected inspirations and breakthroughs. The variety in techniques and styles keeps my artistic journey dynamic and engaging. Through this continuous evolution, I find the most fulfillment and inspiration in my work.

This mindset has allowed me to remain open to new possibilities and unexpected creative paths. Embracing change and embracing the unknown has been the cornerstone of my creative evolution. It keeps my artistic practice fresh and exciting, always infused with wonder and possibility. For me, the beauty of art lies not only in the finished piece but in the journey of self-discovery and growth that comes with each new artistic endeavor.

Creative Polymath

A.D. Cook St Jude sculpture in L'Vegue magazine 2016A creative polymath is a painter who expertly captures the essence of light and shadow on canvas, a sculptor who skillfully molds intricate forms out of clay, a builder who constructs awe-inspiring structures that stand the test of time, an art director who orchestrates visually stunning compositions, an artist who expresses emotions and ideas through various mediums, a photographer who freezes moments in time with artistic precision, a curator who carefully selects and showcases works of art, a teacher who inspires and educates aspiring creatives, an illustrator who brings stories to life with vibrant illustrations, a designer who blends form and function seamlessly, an Imagineer who dreams up fantastical worlds and experiences, a researcher who delves deep into art history and theory, and so much more.

A creative polymath is a master of numerous artistic disciplines, seamlessly transitioning between different mediums and techniques with finesse and originality.

With all those creative avenues, why would any creative person want to limit their artistic expression to one medium or style?

Many artists I know are creative polymaths, sometimes referred to as a maestro of their craft. They possess a wide array of talents and abilities that enable them to thrive in numerous domains, effortlessly transitioning from one creative pursuit to another with grace and ingenuity. They are like modern-day Renaissance men and women, constantly exploring new avenues of artistic expression and pushing the boundaries of creativity. Their versatility knows no bounds, inspiring awe and admiration in all who witness their artistic feats.

Good Company

Creative polymaths are incredibly dynamic and captivating personalities, known for their multifaceted talents and insatiable thirst for learning and evolution. They derive immense joy from delving into diverse fields of knowledge, embracing fresh perspectives, and generously imparting their vast abilities and insights to enhance society and the world.

Over this past August, I enjoyed sharing a few of my creative friends for American Artist Appreciation Month.
