Boulder Dam Brewpub Closing
Boulder Dam Brewpub, Boulder City’s first and only brewpub, is closing its location on Nevada Way after a 17-year run. The brewpub was given a 90-day notice to vacate as the building’s owner is looking to sell but is asking a price more than Boulder Dam Brewpub can handle. Owner Todd Cook has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds to relocate the brewery with a goal of $100,000. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/f/help-save-boulder-citys-brewpub.
Brewer Change
Months ago, I reported that Marcos Lopez, the former Head Brewer of the now closed Astronomy Aleworks, would be the first brewer at The Spot, located in the southwest on Desert Inn just east of Durango in Scenic Brewing’s former location. However, the brewery’s opening has been delayed and Marcos has instead taken a Brewer position at Big Dog’s. On landing a job at Big Dog’s, Marcos said, “Having an opportunity to work for a brewery with so much history and tradition is very exciting. It’s been a lot of fun working with the Big Dog’s crew, and I’m very happy to be a part of this team.” Knowing the excellent brewing skills of Marcos, it’s no surprise that one of our city’s top breweries has obtained his services.
Beer Zombies Heads to Oregon and Brews Punk Rock Museum Beer
Through the month of August Beer Zombies is doing a tap takeover at both locations of Function PDX in Portland. Beer Zombies Owner Chris Jacobs says it’ll be a tap takeover on steroids with signage, merch display and some of his brewery’s best beers. If you are headed to Portland this month, or have friends there, spread the word.
In other Beer Zombies news, The Punk Rock Museum has contracted Beer Zombies to make an official beer for them. It’s called Cold Bruise and is a crisp, balanced 5% European Lager with (of course) very cool label artwork. Head over to the museum’s Triple Down bar at 1422 Western Ave to try some or stop in at Beer Zombies Brewery at 831 W Bonanza Rd.
