In Loving Memory
I was wakened late last night with the news that an old friend had passed away. It seems as we get older that this is an all too common occurrence. This is the reality of life – that we only have today.
The news of Mark Steger‘s passing hit hard. While I hadn’t chatted with Mark for a long time, we still have a mutual friend, Bruce, from the old Hollywood Video days. That’s how I first met Mark. My first impression was that this guy was on fire with positivity. He was in great shape, tall, and always smiling.
Back in 1990, I was painting murals at the Tigard, Oregon, location, so I got to know Mark during those early stores. His charisma inspired the floor-to-ceiling SUPER CSR mural that I painted on location. In Tigard, he was the face of Hollywood Video. Most thought Mark was a Super Guy, and looking back, maybe there was a large red ‘S’ behind that bow tie, cummerbund, and confident smile.
Over the next five years, I got to know Mark through our occasional chats at store openings and company functions — and again, always positive memories and words of encouragement when he visited my studio.
People like Mark are meant to be remembered. Mark made a memorable mark on those around him by making others feel super, which made him all the more super. Rest in peace, Mark.
