Craft Beer Paradise Comes to Northwest Las Vegas

In an area of Northwest Las Vegas where establishments featuring a robust craft beer selection are nearly lost in space, Mission Control has opened in a center at the NE corner of Tenaya and Craig Rd. The owner partnership of Raj Patel and brothers Coby and Jasey Baker have opened what is described as an upscale, classy living room that doubles as a craft beer haven and craft cocktail lounge with an extensive bottle list. The bar’s name and decor allude to a space theme, with artwork featuring female astronauts and cats in space suits. The establishment is non-gaming with a lounge furnished with retro couches and cushy chairs, and all tables are six-tops, encouraging social connecting.

The 20-tap beer list changes constantly and includes local beers and Celestial Mechanics beers (the owners’ beer brand currently being contract brewed by Mason Ale Works). The selection is quite unique, with brews you’ll not likely find anywhere else in town, such as Three Floyds Brewing Cocomungo Imperial Stout, Celestial Mechanics Ryusei Japanese Rice Lager and Beer Zombies Ice Imperial IPA. There’s also a semi-secret Captain’s List of more than 600 large format (1.5 L) beers.

Mission Control is connected to Saffron Flavors of India, and although the restaurant’s main menu is not available, there is a menu exclusive to the bar with items such as Crispy Cauliflower, Naan Pizza and Bibimbap Rice Bowl.

Local Brewery Champion of the Month

In this recurring feature we spotlight establishments that appreciate our local breweries enough to devote their beer lists to beer made in Nevada. Since day one of its opening in 2021, Rebellion Pizza in the Anthem Village Center in Henderson has poured exclusively beer brewed in Southern Nevada, providing one-stop-shopping for local beer and pouring the largest collection of local beer in Southern Nevada.

Now those in northwest Las Vegas have a much shorter drive, as the NY- and Sicilian-style pizza makers Ricky Lewis, Ryan Perras and Tex Gibson have opened a second location on the far opposite end of the Vegas Valley in the Tenaya Village center in Centennial Hills. Like the Anthem location, the beer list is 100% local, with dozens of choices representing all major beer styles from nearly every brewery that distributes, including Able Baker, Big Dog’s, CraftHaus, HUDL and Lovelady.

What’s Pouring in March

Neon Desert Brewing Brewer/Owner Jimmy Doyle has brewed several special beers for his brewery’s 5th anniversary celebration on March 1. They include a barrel aged version of CocoNillaCan Imperial Stout with coconut, vanilla and pecan aged in the first rum barrel from Las Vegas Distillery; and Jimmychlaus, a 16% lager that took a year to make, made with the same yeast as Samichlaus that can handle a high alcohol lager. Jimmy says they will also have at least four other barrel aged beers and four fruited sours.

HUDL Brewing Head Brewer Joe Cuozzo has brewed an Irish Red Ale with Wyermann CaraRed and CaraMunich Type 1 malts from Germany that is smooth and crisp with a beautiful deep red hue and all the specialty malts accented for toasty and biscuity notes.

North 5th Brewing Head Brewer Patrick Tofte will have the return of their Helles Lager “Dark Horse 103” on tap in early March. At 5.4%, it has a malty sweetness that leads to a crisp, dry finish making for an easy drinking lager.

Able Baker Brewing Head Brewer Matt Marino has a barrel-aged version of their Honey Dip Imperial Stout. It weighs in at 12.4% and was 50% aged in rye barrels, 50% in bourbon barrels and then blended together just prior to kegging. The identifiable flavors of vanilla, honey and oak in Honey Dip Stout are softened and rounded by the aging process, which also adds a deep chocolate flavor, another layer of sweet richness and subtle notes of bourbon.

Las Vegas Brewing Partnering with Nevada State Parks Foundation

As the Las Vegas Brewing Company is co-owned by Jamie Dolder, a 4th generation native Las Vegan, it’s not surprising that the brewery makes it a point to celebrate our city’s history with endeavors such as its IYKYK (if you know you know IPAs with backstories any longtime Las Vegan would know and remember).

Now the brewery has entered into a partnership with Nevada State Parks to make brews inspired by the state’s parks, which will be released every few months. The first one out of the gate is Camelops Kölsch, honoring Ice Age Fossils State Park, home to an impressive collection of Ice Age fossils, including those of the extinct Camelops genus. This bright and refreshing Kölsch celebrates the park, and the cans feature artwork of the Camelops and a blurb on its geologic history. With every 4-pack sold, 5% of the proceeds will be donated to the Nevada State Parks Foundation, directly supporting projects that enhance and protect these natural spaces.

Camelops Kölsch can be found at the Las Vegas Brewing Company taprooms, select Las Vegas area Speedee Mart locations and at 1864 Wine & Spirits.
