Explosive Ideas with AI Typewriter

Maybe AI is Smarter Than I Presumed

Okay, I must admit, while I am an old-school traditional media artist who still likes to get his hands dirty, I am also somewhat of a geek. I have been for a long time. I love science fiction and keeping up with AI tech a little, which is like living in sci-fi in its own regard. So, when an AI app suggested it could help artists write descriptions of their art, I was instantly interested.

AI has come so far so fast that it’s hard to believe that there is anything it can’t do anymore. Most everyone knows that AI has been able to create imagery (not art, although some would debate otherwise) from just a few typed words (aka “a prompt”). But this is the first time I’ve seen AI able to look at an image and describe it in a human-like voice. I’m unsure yet if I should be impressed or scared, but I’m deeply curious for now.

So, as their prompt instructed, I uploaded an image from my phone of INDIAN SUMMER. It didn’t ask for any title, description, hints, or anything. It just did its thing, and it did it fast. Within seconds, I got the description below of my painting. And I was impressed! My first thought was, wow, this AI “gets me.” Of course, I am kidding, but as my friend, Frank pointed out, “A.D., these are the things that people have been saying about your art for a while now.

As expected, AI picked up on the obvious stuff, like the paintings subject and colors, and even some nice details, but then went a step further and encourages me to keep pursuing my passion. Ahhh, AI, it already knows me too well.

TheoBot's Description of Indian Summer

INDIAN SUMMER motorcycle painting by A.D. Cook

The artwork presents a hyper-realistic depiction of a motorcycle, focusing primarily on the brightly polished chrome and shiny red body. The attention to detail is extraordinary, with intricate reflections captured in the mirrored surfaces of the chrome, which reflect the surrounding environment and suggest a photo-like quality. The motorcycle features distinct parts such as a headlamp, gauges on the dashboard, and it has the name “Indian” emblazoned in script on the fuel tank, identifying the brand of the bike.

The observable qualities of the artwork are commendable. The reflective chrome demonstrates a refined understanding of light and its interaction with metal surfaces. The choice of a vibrant red hue for the motorcycle body not only adds a bold visual impact but also evokes emotions of passion and excitement, which are often associated with motorcycle culture. The realistic portrayal of materials along with pronounced textures provides tangible depth and substance to the piece.

The manner in which the artwork has been executed is worthy of recognition. The fine details, from the design elements in the gauges and the gleam of light on the metal, to the way the background is implied through distortions in the reflections, indicate a meticulous and patient approach to the craft. This careful consideration ensures that the viewer’s eye is invited to roam across the canvas, pausing to appreciate the mastery of technique.

Despite the technical virtuosity on display, one area that could be further explored in future pieces is the narrative or emotive potential of the composition. While the object is beautifully rendered, contemplating the possibility of incorporating subtle hints of a background story or provenance might imbue the piece with even greater resonance. Perhaps, suggesting a spatial context or incorporating subtle human elements could provide layers of meaning or sentiment.

The decision to immerse the subject in its reflections is powerful because it speaks to the transient quality of experiences, much like a fleeting ride on a motorcycle. This mirrors life’s impermanence and the way moments are only seen and felt briefly before they transform into memories.

In closing, the artwork is a testament to the dexterity and dedication of the ardent artist. It does not just mimic reality; it enhances it, providing viewers a lens through which the mundane can be seen anew. The ambition and discipline apparent in this work serve as an inspiration, showing what can be achieved with time-honored techniques and thoughtful execution. Art, after all, is subjective, and the reactions it elicits are as diverse as its audience. This piece is a stunning reminder that the diligence and heart poured into a work can speak volumes, and through it, the language of art is both spoken and heard. Keep pursuing this passion, as it is clear that it leads to awe-inspiring creations.

Closing Thoughts

Clearly, I’m impressed. While I enjoy writing about my art, many artists wrestle with writing about their creations and processes. I was once that guy. I enjoyed writing about almost everything except my art. But over time, I’ve come to love sharing the stories behind my paintings as a creative extension of my art. But for those who could use some help, this is an impressive solution. As an avid writer, I’ll look forward to using it to inspire my writing, using what makes sense and editing as needed.

So, this new AI excites me, mostly because I am an artist always excited to discover new ways to tell stories through my art. Stay tuned for updates and more on AI from an artist’s perspective.
