There is much to be thankful for…
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
“Thanksgiving” by Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
Sometimes it’s easy to forget just how much we have and how much we all really have to be thankful for. For me, the Thanksgiving prayer above says it all.
For each new morning with its light —
I’m thankful for each day the sun rises and I’m still here to create. That in and of itself is a lot considering the tragedies of today’s world. I’m thankful for today and embrace the opportunities before me. As long as we have today we have hope.
For rest and shelter of the night —
While this has been an eventful year for me, I’m grateful for a place to live and lay my head each night.
For health and food —
My health is fine, thank you, and my belly more full than not.
For love and friends —
Without love and friends we’d all be nowhere. Over the years friends become family and it’s all because of love.
For everything Thy goodness sends —
There is so much to be grateful for and it’s important to remember that there is often more than we realize – not just the obvious and big things but also the small victories we have in life.
Sure, we all have aches and pains, and life rolls on. The important thing is not to dwell on them and be appreciative for what we have each and every day. A quick look around will reveal that while some in this world may have it better, many do not. These are trying times for all of us, but these are also the best of times. Often, it’s how we choose look at it. Each morning I welcome the day and embrace the challenges before me, whatever they may be. For that alone I am grateful. To have friends and family to love is a huge blessing and will get you through a lot of diversity in life. Thanksgiving is all about that… taking time to reflect on what you are thankful for with the ones you love. As we share this day with those around us, I hoped that yours is blessed with a home full of peace, love and joy.
